Barcelona is the capital city of Catalonia/Cataluña/Catalunya and the province with the same name. Confused? Barcelona, being the capital city of Catalonia, holds the seat of the "Generalitat de Catalunya" as well as its Conselleries, the Parliament of Catalonia & Supreme Court of Catalonia. In short, Barcelona City is a VERY IMPORTANT CITY in not only Catalonia but in Spain. But is Catalonia REALLY part of Spain? Quite independent - and fighting for independence from Spain - Barcelona and Cataluña seem to be much more affiliated with France than anything Spanish. Politics aside (if possible), Barcelona is a unique jewel along Spain's Mediterranean coast and a hilight in Europe.
